About Us

Law No. 139 of 1968 provides salary protection for those workers who suffer a temporary disability due to an illness or accident that is unrelated to their job or to any vehicle accident. SINOT is a disability insurance that took place with the approval of  Law No. 139 of 1968.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Become disabled due to an illness or injury unrelated to one's employment or to an automobile accident.
  2. Receive medical treatment by an authorized and licensed physician or chiroporactor.
  3. Earn at least $150 at an insured employment during one's basic year. (The basic year is the first four quarters of the last five calendar year quarters)

Disability Benefits

Law No. 139 mandates that the minimum weekly benefit be $12; and that the maximum weekly benefit be $55 for agricultural workers and $113 for industrial workers. If insured by a private plan, such as USIC's, you can obtain additional weekly limits.

Benefit payments will begin on the insured's first day of hospitalization. If there is no hospitalization, benefits will begin on the eighth day of the insured's disability.

Benefits will be payable as long as the person is disabled or up to a maximum of 26 weeks in any 52 week period.

Dismemberment Benefits

Death Benefits

Statutory benefits provide a $4,000 death benefit (between the sum of indebted benefits and beneficiary payments). With USIC's plan, you can obtain additional death benefits than those provided by the Law.

Funeral Expense Benefit

USIC's Private Plan also provides up to $4,000 in additional benefits to cover funeral expenses if the insured dies by accidental means.
